Salient Details

The project is feasibility study for development of run-off river hydropower (40 MW) from Solu Khola located in Solukhumbu District. Main project features include  weir (length 24 m), under sluice, intake (2 no 4×2.2m), approach canal (361 m), surface desanding basin , headrace tunnel (4.15 km), fore bay (2016 m3 capacity), surface power house, switchyard, transmission line 132 kVA (3 km). The energy output will be 281 GWh. The project will cost US$ 56 million.

The scope of work included (i) Feasibility Study and (ii) Environmental Impact Assessment. The details of scope of work comprised of:

  • desk study and map interpretation
  • verification of location of project components, conduct field investigations comprising topographical surveys, geological,  geo-technical and geophysical investigation, hydrological and sediment studies, seismic study
  • alternative configuration and optimization studies
  • project layout and design of civil structures such as weir, intake, canal, desanding basin, headrace tunnel, power house
  • layout and design of hydraulic structures, power generating equipment, substation and transmission line
  • construction plan and schedules
  • cost estimates
  • economic and financial analysis
  • preparation of feasibility study report
  • environmental impact assessment  as per Environment Protection Regulation of GoN
